A Symphony of Genres

Nocturnal Omissions stands apart with a distinctive approach to audio. Our music project is a testament to our philosophy: to transcend conventional boundaries and fuse diverse genres into a cohesive, innovative sound. Each track is an invitation to a new auditory journey, highlighting our unique blend of genres and different influences.

Influences

Nocturnal Omissions carries traces of influence from a wide range of artists, including Tycho, Aphex Twin, Air, VNV Nation, Porcupine Tree, Depeche Mode, NMN (Mushraka), TigerMilk of Mainline Entertainment, Mick Rippon, The Cure, Moby, Wolfsheim, Covenant, God Lives Underwater, Trent Reznor, DJ Quik, Oingo Boingo, Tool, Genesis, and Mike Patton.

That said, the project is never defined by its referencesor the style of a particular release. Each album stands on its own with a distinct sound, tone, and approach to composition. Even within a single release, tracks often shift direction, refusing to settle into one lane for long. The result is a catalog that feels familiar at moments, but never predictable.

The Artist Behind Nocturnal Omissions

Nocturnal Omissions is the long-running studio project of Vallen Daniels (formerly DJ Vallen), which began in Enfield, Connecticut, and quickly found its way into the underground scenes of the NYC metro area and Seattle. A musical nomad at heart, Vallen carried his work across the U.S., sketching ideas on trains, shaping mixes on planes, and building songs wherever space and time allowed.

Raised on a mix of traditional instruments and early digital tools, Vallen’s sound evolved organically into what would become Nocturnal Omissions. Entirely self-funded and self-produced, the project draws from a wide spectrum of influences including EBM, industrial and classic rock, darkwave, synthpop, ambient and post-rock, psybent, minimal techno, hauntology, and synthwave.

At its core, Nocturnal Omissions is driven by connection. For Vallen, success is measured when a track resonates deeply enough to become part of someone’s life. That sense of intimacy and permanence is the real win, and the motivation behind nearly 28 years of releases.

Today, Nocturnal Omissions continues to develop new material, including a post-rock follow-up to Ascendant Sea era releases, a vocal-driven album, and select collaborative projects. Paredolia, the project’s eighth major release, arrived on June 6, 2022. With nearly 100 songs written, Nocturnal Omissions stands as a deeply personal body of work, created with the hope that it endures beyond the moment it was made.
